Description
The Iso-Kraaseli backpack is made of vegetable-tanned leather which makes its classic look stand out! The storage area is can be closed with a zipper, located under the backpack's flap. The insides of the bag feature a zipper side pocket and open pockets.
The backside of the backpack also features a zipper pocket, where you can easily slip your keys or other important items for safekeeping. The shoulder straps can be adjusted steplessly. The bag is unstiffened, but the material is very sturdy.
Iso-Kraaseli is an island in the Raahe archipelago, in the Bay of Bothnia. On the island, there is an old daymark beacon built in 1852 and a pilot station. The Iso-Kraaseli backpack has been inspired by the marine pilots who carried their lunch in a backpack when piloting ships from Raahe to the world's seas and back to their home port. Considering the needs of a modern day's marine pilot, this backpack also fits a small laptop. The Iso-Kraaseli design suits both men and women!
Vegetable-tanning with vegetable oils is the oldest leather processing method in the world! Vegetable-tanned leather is a natural and ecological option. It looks and feels great! When treated well, vegetable-tanned leather develops a beautiful patina. The patination process includes wrinkles and marks of use appearing on the surface of the leather. In addition to using care products, scratches and wrinkles appearing in use can be slightly reduced by rubbing them with your fingertips; the natural grease from your skin will even out the marks!
The vegetable-tanning process is based on using tannins and biodegradable vegetable oils obtained from natural materials. Therefore, leather tanned with vegetable oils is a completely chemical-free and allergy-friendly material. Tannins, or plant extracts, turn the undressed hide into durable vegetable-tanned leather, ready for years of use. The natural materials used are sourced from different trees and plants, varying due to their different concentrations. Tannins can be found in tree bark, leaves, fruit and even roots. Natural extracts make vegetable-tanned leather unique. The manufacturing process takes 1.5 months, which makes it slower, and therefore often also pricier, than other methods of processing top-grain leather. Vegetable-tanned leather is an environmentally friendly and ethical material!
